The Thunderbird Air Base was a historic aviation site, partially redeveloped into a sprawling residential multi-family site. The modern exterior architecture is warmed with a floor and ceiling of warm wood that pierces the entry, through the lobby, to the pool beyond. The interiors are warm, inspired by the bomber jacket of the period, masculine and comfortable. Architectural soffits hold wood hanging ceilings that warm the architecture inside and out. Concrete floors, patterned tiles, and textured architectural materials create the hard shell. Furnishing layer on vintage Turkish rugs, leather sofas and big suede chairs, wood and steel tables, and a few aviation accessories. The extensive mobile workspace is developed with a common meeting core. Specific function rooms are available to meet tailored resident needs, and all are accessible to residents with daily parcel connections.
